The free-trade-through-democratic-globalism dream had been hijacked by Socialist International under various assumed names.

Communism didn’t die out with the fall of the Soviet Union. When that ship sank, its occupants floated towards the democratic shores, dressed themselves up as democrats and usurped democracy to their own ends, wreaking havoc with our economies which today are all in massive debts.
