The phone at the Auditor General’s office may be buzzing all day – but rest assured there won’t be replies of any worth. When Simon Busutil said (recently) that the Auditor General (Mr J Deguara) and the Ombudsman ( Mr A Mifsud), who is himself a former Auditor General, are examples of persons acceptable to both parties, what he really should have said is that they are both Yes men, whoever is in power.

In other words, they are acceptable to both political parties but not acceptable to those who regard competence and honesty a requisite (ahead of propensity to kowtow )

Hopefully, the Nationalist Party will also soon wake up to the need to ask the Auditor General to embark on an official audit of how much the GasanTumas energy will cost the taxpayer compared to an energy mix from the European grid and BWSC.

The Auditor General’s office is going to be buzzing.
