Out of the EU our position would have been much worse. Just imagine Joseph Muscat, Keith Schembri, Konrad Mizzi and Brian Tonna unfettered by EU rules and regulations.

Police inaction has nothing to do with laziness. It is a deliberate strategy to let those robbing us blind get away with it.
The EU founding fathers laboured under the assumption that European voters are too sensible and intelligent to willingly elect undemocratic, corrupt or criminal organisations into government.

And even if they did, they banked n the institutional checks and balances kicking in to keep them in check.

In normal democracies, people like the Kaczynski twins, Orban, Zeman, Fico and Muscat would have been weeded out long before they came within a mile of power.

But the countries which joined the EU in 2004 were not established democracies, but states which had only recently liberated themselves from oppression.

They did not join the EU to contribute anything, but to prop up their economies and save themselves from their own dictatorial pasts. They dressed up as liberal democracies to get into the EU, only to revert to form only a few years later.

The EU is unable to save us from the corrupt cess pit we jumped into. It is up to us to find a way out of this mess.

Why not Joseph Muscat? He should explain to the committee why he provided space to Nexia BT at the Office of the Prime Minister and how his chief of staff, Keith Schembri and Minister Konrad Mizzi were both advised by Nexia BT to open secret trusts.

They should call the PM as well. The PM must know something since he has been praising one and has promoted the other to the position of Minister at the OPM since the Panama Scandal broke out. So they might want to ask him to explain these strange decisions.

Apart from that, they might want to ask some questions concerning Egrant and its mysterious owner beneficiaries.

Is the Panama Papers committee going to summon that other PEP, Sai Mizzi? She is a Malta government envoy and European Union citizen and she is named in the Panama Papers as a beneficiary of a Mata government minister’s New Zealand trust.
