Of course not all opinions are equally valid. Some people are more stupid than others, and the way they reason, argue and vote is the best guide to judge that.

The fact is, some people are often right. It’s generally because they’ve thought long and hard (and rationally) about things.

Even climate change is a major cause and will continue to catalyse migration most especially from low lying areas in South-East Asia as sea levels rise due to the massive amounts of CO2 from western industrialization.

Nobody is telling you to give up on your lifestyle or stop romanticizing on the past of early childhood. All I am saying is that we need, it is our duty to make amends for the mess that was created in the first place.

Secondly, the two scenarios of migration are completely different in the sense that the procedure for a Maltese national to go to Canada is not same to the procedure of an undocumented migrant to enter Malta.

The Labour Party’s 2013 electoral campaign had strong, disturbing undertones of fascism. The way they have governed since is even more disturbing. And I’m quite convinced that left to their own devices, and supported by a substantial proportion of the Maltese population, they would be quite happy to let these “illegal immigrants” drown.

So by the time I express a view, it is likely to be right. I avoid expressing views where I think I might be wrong.

This is, largely, a discipline engendered by 26 years of having to form opinions on a professional basis, as a newspaper columnist. It is now second nature not to express an opinion that is not based on facts and observation.

You don’t fight evil by pandering to it.
