Yugoslavia and the USSR were not a federation of democracies, so you can’t compare. A Unites States of Europe might not be what the older generations want, but I think that it is what the better-educated younger, generation aspires to (even in Britain).

Just like Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and Macedonia, Catalonia, Wallonia, Flanders and Scotland do aspire to become independent, but they also want to remain members of the EU.

I’m still convinced that a United States of Europe is the best option for peaceful prosperous future.

What justification is there for you to claim that NATO is made up of a hotchpotch of operetta armies, but then go on to support an EU army, which will have to be made up of the same hotchpotch of European armies, less the USA?

You are avoiding the real issue that “a united credible European military machine” will have to be made up of the same European operetta armies that we have today as part of NATO. The EU is proving to be far from a credible machine as it is, without the burden of an army.

Why do you speak of an army only? That will be no use to Malta, and some other EU member states, without a naval component. I am taking it for granted that your credible EU army will have, at least, an air-force as well.

And what about the pervasive corruption in Putin’s Russia?

Like our Egrant, Keith Schembri and Konrad Mizzi, he was exposed in the Panama Papers.

And Orban’s corrupt government. And UKIP defrauding the European Parliament. And what about Trump’s refusal to publish his tax returns. And the Maltese government’s cesspit of corruption.

Like the Labour Party before 2013 they’re just gagging to get their hands in the till.
