I agree with your source, but you have to be aware that employees at De la Rue in the UK have been pushing for substantial improvements in their wages and conditions lately. So this could also be a counter maneuver by management.

Wasn’t Crane Currency touted as a good idea since De La Rue was leaving? I.e. Crane Currency would employ the people left unemployed by De La Rue. What happens now?

We are getting used to the salesman trotting back and forth to gatecrash any good news gathering for the cameras and taking the credit for something others did or decided. The trip to Moscow was primarily to appear as if he was involved in brokering a private commercial deal and this De La Rue news conference was arranged by him as another photo opportunity.
