For years Air Malta has been in the red but a couple of years before 2013 it was put on the right track and was slowly improving without state aid as the EU banned it. Then this lot of amateurs won the elections and everything went tits up.

Joseph Muscat the wannabe statesman, his corrupt right and left hand men and his bunch of amateur yes men & women in parliament have dragged Malta along with its reputation down the gutter. It will take at least 10 years to sort out some the mess they have created in less than 4 years.

Not to worry, the boss says we are doing extremely well, GDP is up, we have the lowest unemployment in the EU and it can only get better, he has a road map? I would imagine that this saga is going to end up in the hands of the Chinese again, watch this space.

I’m not surprised. For many weeks, Alitalia has been saying they don’t want Air Malta. Not even for free. In the meantime, and very irresponsibly, our Labour government was still raising expectations and giving the impression that a good deal is nearly in hand.

Barring gross corruption, how can you ever hope for such a big sale to somebody who does not want your stuff.

Il Giornale questions why Alitalia was even considering acquiring a stake in Air Malta considering Air Malta’s losses and dire financial situation. No mention is made of Alitalia’s ongoing recurrent losses, which is an additional indication of a bad business deal in the making.

In reply to elektra. More everyday Italians than not regard us as cretins or cheats (with minor historical anecdotes to help, like Giuseppe Vella). What you're seeing probably has more to do with a greater proliferation of internet media, though cretins and cheats is probably accurate in the end.

Neither Minister Edward Zammit Lewis nor the Air Malta chairman seems to be particularly worried. Both seen in London this week for the Travel Fair.
