Our conversation was a personal one and therefore private. Joe Giglio is not actually defending Ms Mintoff Bland because she hasn’t been charged with anything and probably won’t be. He is appearing for her ‘parte civile’ (her interests in the prosecution of Gheorghe Popa).

In reply to Jo. Please, not this old chestnut again. Any self-employed person can refuse any piece of work or client. This is a democracy. The only lawyers who can't refuse a brief are those who are instructed by the court to take on a case as legal aid.

Can a lawyer refuse to take a case? If in the affirmative, then I agree with those raising doubts on Dr. Giglio’s choice.
