It would appear that within the UMP/ Républicain party in France, Sarkozy just got relayed to history under the same notions of politics. The personal enrichment of politicians on the job, or the mere perception or display of outward trappings of it is anathema to the average French voter.

Hollande would have been done for if his nocturnal escapade to visit Gayot was in a Ferrari, or equivalent, but the “poor thing” was on a bike.

Sarkozy’s post-election and pre-presidential stay at the Fouquet Hotel plus the jaunt on Bollorés super-yacht, then berthed in Malta, were what still jostle most French over Sarkozy.
