In reply to Daphne Caruana Galizia. The problem with that is that each person has a vote irrespective of whether his IQ is in the double digits. Appointing people, on the other hand, is usually done by those already in power so the reason for appointing idiots does not stem from the lack of intelligence of those elected but due to their attachment to their own advancement rather than what is right for the country. In turn it is the voter who elects those in the highest power and the you have the failure of the one man one vote system.

I’m not in favour of that. I’m in favour of appointing/voting for people who are fit for purpose in the first place.

If a state council CEO or commissioner doesn’t know how to behave on Facebook, then he shouldn’t have got the job in the first place. It means there are other, more serious, things he doesn’t understand either.

There should be a code of ethics for MPs and those who hold state office, delineating the parameters for the sensible uploading and general use of social media websites.

They take ridiculous selfies, showing fish caught on boat trips, others playing mickey at Checkpoint Charlie or boasting how good the pastizzi are.

The cherry on the cake has been “liking” images of seminaked women and pictures showing inebriation after a good alcohol binge. Standards are degrading by the day.
