Are you sure that those were the President’s security? This picture in The Malta Independent shows HRH Michelle Muscat next to the President – you can actually just see her head and red jacket. She is usually accompanied by a security SUV filled with security men. http://www.independent.com.mt/file.aspx?f=135276

Why are you amazed? Coleiro Preca travels regularly in her official car with an SUV in tow. She is another who is preceded by the police screeching their sirens for the plebs to move their cars to the side of the road while her car and the SUV speed through.

I think that bodyguards are a status symbol for government politicians: the more you have the more important you are. And they’re free of charge too as we’re paying for them so, the more the merrier.

I do not recall such a situation when George Abela was president. He used to be part of the crowd.

We are really telling the world that Malta has become a land for criminals.

They can put on all the brave faces they want but they are all scared and their only option is to hide like Her Excellency (seriously?) in the midst of a crowd of security men.
