Muscat is at the very pinnacle of the Establishment. The fact that it happens to be corrupt through and through and manifestly unfit for purpose does not change anything. He remains at the head until he resigns.

Is he implying, perhaps, that he is not really overseeing this disgraceful mess and that he is just a front?

Unfortunately if The Malta Independent surveys are anything to go by Joseph Muscat and his band of merry thieves will be running the country for another 5 years post 2018.

The Establishment are those who lord it over Villa Francia and the Inquisitor’s Palace as their landed fief. The Establishment are those who host high teas for the high society at the Auberge de Castille. The Establishment are those with companies in Panama who establish bank accounts in foreign jurisdictions.

Lesser mortals sip tea in the village square and bank at the Bank of Valletta.
