As a matter of fact, during his first years as Leader of the Opposition, there were many supporters who would have preferred De Marco, as he was more fiery and his rhetoric inflammatory; basically Mintoff’s counterpart as an orator.

In the long run Fenech Adami showed his stamina and charisma. His calm demeanour belied the fact that he was a tough and fearless politician who fought and won on his terms.
