Fake news is the equivalent of snake oil. There are laws to protect you from manufacturers and retailers who sell you counterfeit goods, substandard goods, and not-fit-for-purpose goods. You do not object to those laws on the grounds that you might wish to consume, should the fancy take you, a hairdryer that will set fire to your house.
