Let us not forget that John Dalli was a Nationalist Party creation, groomed as their young star hopeful politician and candidate, who was then entrusted for many years with Malta’s finances, and later nominated the the most prestigious post of European Commissioner.

If anything has gone wrong, as they now allege, then the Nationalist Party grandees are solely to blame for their lack of political foresight. Let us trust that if that is the case they have vetted some of their dubious recent star candidates.

In reply to Francis Saliba MD. Well, we know that he was in the Bahamas on a flying visit when he was supposed to be at an EC meeting in Cyprus, so would be no surprise to find that he was cutting some shady deal in thr Middle East when he was supposed to be at his desk in Valletta.

They’re fraudulent if:

a. Scholten saw Dalli in Germany, not Brussels (if Dalli couldn’t travel, how did he get to Germany from Brussels?);

b. Scholten wrote out certificates in Germany while Dalli was in Brussels – isn’t a doctor obliged to examine a patient in person before certifying his condition?

As a lawyer, I find this hilarious. Why didn’t he threaten you with a libel suit in terms of the Press Act? Because he knows you can defend yourself by the “il-verita’ tal-fatti” which would, of course, fry him.

Instead, he conjures up this harassment case which is used for stalkers and people who generally behave themselves in a manner as to cause a nuisance (and harassment) such as calling the victim repeatedly, sending repeated texts and so on.

I find it fascinating. It is definitely creative on the part of the (Gozitan) lawyer but, still, I find it quite entertaining.
