I’might afraid that your assessment of the situation is poor. The Nationalist Party and all the English-language newspapers have pounced on this scandal and are reporting on it assiduously.

Rizzo does NOT have the Prime Minister’s backing, which is why he resigned, is out of a job, and at home suffering from stress-related problems.

It was Eva rust Bartolo who put his vote-canvasser in charge of procurement with a budget of millions. It is his vote-canvasser who asked for bribes and took them. Nobody made that up.

I don’t know why all these conspiracy theories. It’s perfectly straightforward.

1. Edward Caruana is Evarist Bartolo’s vote-canvasser and has been for many years. He has a brother called Joseph (Caruana) who is a civil servant.

2. When the Labour Party was elected to power and Bartolo was made Education Minister, he appointed his vote-canvasser as head of procurement at the Foundation for Tomorrow’s Schools, which manages a budget of many millions. He did that either because he is stupid and naïve (but he is not; he is cunning, manipulative and extremely nasty) or because he knew why Caruana wanted that job and didn’t give a damn (or is in on it too).

3. He got rid of the permanent secretary at the Education Ministry and had him replaced by Joseph Caruana.

These were all, without exception, Evarist Bartolo’s decisions.

Now that people know Evarist Bartolo’s true ethical standards, it is good to have a look back at the pre-2013 election press conferences.

The Labour politicians who are now under the spotlight for possible involvement in corruption were the very same ones who were wheeled out to accuse the Nationalist ministers of corruption.

This just goes to show how wrong people were to believe them back then.

Reminds me of the time Evarist Bartolo compared Simon Busuttil’s strategy to “an obstetric operation to repair a split hymen to re-attain virginity”.
