“News to cherish” No. News to keep the public informed about a matter of public interest.

There’s a difference between reporting facts and gloating over misfortune. No one’s calling for the latter, and it is a serious dereliction of duty to neglect the former out of misplaced respect and irrelevant sentiment.

Schembri occupies public office which he has used and abused to further his personal interests with the collusion of at least one minister and with the knowledge and almost certain participation of the prime minister.

Schembri’s prognosis is relevant and of public interest, because it implies a drastic shift in his perspective, objectives and priorities, and because that shift has very real and direct implications for the decisions and actions of his illicit business partners in the prime minister’s office.

Whatever Muscat got into, along with Mizzi and Schembri, with the involvement and assistance of Brian Tonna, is not going to end because Schembri is terminally ill.

In a cruel twist of fate, Schembri has illustrated all that is wrong about corruption and trading in influence. By using his public office for personal ends, he has blurred the separation between personal and public, and denied himself the possibility of moving out of public life with his personal life and affairs intact.

Schembri’s priority right now is to shore up and protect his ill-gotten gains and, given the prime minister’s dishevelled appearance, that appears to be his prime concern too.

Never extrapolate from your own experience to that of others.

In reply to Daphne Caruana Galizia. Those who are facing a terminal disease see it completely different. I am a very strong person but i stell feel very sad reading stories of persons facing a terrible prognosis. If pn will treats keith's disease as if it was a news to cherish i would refrain from voting pn for the rest of my life. Mind you, i still belive keith has to pay for what he did.
