Those personalities have been shaped by growing up and living in the same ‘village’, with the same clique of friends roughly from the age of 5 or 10, and using approval of each other as a means of social control. They might have views against abortion or views in favour of it – but more usually have abortions and keep it secret so as to maintain their approval rating – but their emotional and intellectual immaturity is something apart from that.

You don’t see it in their views for or against. You see it in their inability to form a coherent opinion or argument, and their total lack of language skills. They have the vocabulary range of a 10-year-old.

And Maltese women, meanwhile, grew up learning that men are The Other, who are there to be manipulated, and how to manipulate them. In that situation, ‘male attention’ is seen as a scarce and valuable resource, so any woman who is perceived as getting too much of it, for whatever reason including work or professional achievements, is ripped to shreds.

The whole situation is ghastly.
