Mario Demarco needs to distance himself, firmly, from any support he receives from government quarters and the Labour Party, and especially from the Prime Minister’s mouthpiece, because the main reason his father was always regarded with suspicion is the fact that not only did the Labour Party and its fellow travellers never criticise him, but they actually stuck up for him and praised him.

We can’t keep compartmentalising in this bloody country. I sit with so-and-so on the same board as a private citizen, not as deputy leader of a party, so that’s OK. I am in business with Labour so-and-so as a businessman, not as a Nationalist Party member of parliament, so that’s OK. It’s not OK. It’s abnormal, it’s perverse and it’s absurd.

Simon Busuttil talks a lot about restoring public trust in the institutions. I know he means it. But public trust starts with this. Do away with the conflicting interests. Stop compartmentalising. We don’t care for their legalistic justifications.

They say it cannot be avoided because Malta is tiny and the talent pool is small. So bloody what? If the Strickland Foundation council will whither and die for want of a member, then so be it.

Bedingfield’s narrative right now is that Mario Demarco is the decent Nazzjonalist, the anti-Daphne, because he is not a hater. And the anti-Simon. That too is pretty fucking serious.

And it can only be countered by some pretty fucking serious outrage addressed directly at Bedingfield, by name and surname. This is not the stuff of turgid press releases, or even Facebook posts. This requires a fuck-off reply on Bedingfield’s blog, to Bedingfield himself.
