That Eddie Fenech Adami was the Prime Minister has no bearing. The subject is Louis Grech. Fenech Adami had the big problem of sorting out the mess he inherited from KMB and Air Zejtun in 1987.

Remember the 8,222 people put on the state payroll in the run-up to the 1987 elections. And Air Malta was lumped with quite a big portion of that. Fenech Adami remains one of the links in the great chain of Nationalist Party leaders. Hope this clears the air.

I don’t totally agree with you – Maria Micallef is one of the smarter business people I have come across. Her chairmanship at Air Malta was never about Air Malta but about her paymaster – Mizzi Organisation.

It is what she can do for Mizzi via her chairmanship which will earn her the thing she’s had her eyes on for many years – becoming the CEO when the current incumbent (Brian Mizzi) retires.

I mean look at the GSD contract for the airline, conferences held at Waterfront Hotel, and wait… the biggest of them all: Arkadia getting the concession for Is-Suq tal-Belt – for 99 years, was it?

Coincidentally, they are all businesses under her direct directorship. Look beyond the curly hair and tiny physical presence. She’s a biggie and used Air Malta as a licence to knock on doors she was unable to before.
