You connect with people. Not with voters. Precisely because you are a blogger cum (partisan) journalist. In your chosen role, that’s fine. You are not a politician. But politicians need to connect with voters and that means assessing for ex whether a ‘star’ candidate costs more votes than he earns, and whether he delivers substance. If this is too highbrow for your segmented view of the world, (and I am incidentally one of your ‘audience’ as are Labour, PN, Star Wars fans and what not) here is where I rest my case. Looking forward to when you challenge the PN to come out with strong policies that will convince those of us sick of Joey to vote or choose who to vote, whoever we may be. Remember, Joey was today back -slapped and lauded by Juncker, the Lux premier whose own past stinks but who is also the EC President, just as Joey and not Simon is PM. Simon Busuttil could only come out with a piteous lament as to how unfair the world is when the Commission comprehensively ignores our little local Panamagate. And shoot another bullet in his own foot. He will have to do far better than this.

Oh sure, that’s why I’ve had such a consistently large readership for almost 30 years. Beat that if you can.

The mistake people like you make is to extrapolate from your own experience to everyone else. People are different.

My audience is not your audience. Accept it. I don’t write for people like you. I write for people like me – largely because nobody else does.

There are plenty of people writing for you – they’re all over the place. So don’t expect me to do it too. Learn about audiences, about segmentation. Oh, and I’m not in politics, but in journalism.

Do you realise that you’re talking to somebody who has made her living since her 20s thinking about stuff and writing about it? I don’t just think – thinking is my job. More specifically, observing politicians and thinking about politics is my job. And that’s exactly why I have been consistently voting Nationalist or more specifically, against Labour – a definition that depends on how much I like the Nationalist Party at the time.

Sorry, but you lost me there. Nobody I know – and I inhabit switcher territory – calls them that, says that, writes it or thinks it. The only person who ever did was Marisa Micallef in her brainless and badly written newspaper articles.

These are the people which the Nationalist Party, catastrophically, fails to connect with. It barely even knows they exist. I was about to write the exact same thing myself, and was pleased to find that Chris Peregin had saved me the bother so I could take the dog for a walk instead.

I am qualified to do that, because I am one of them. You, on the other hand, are one of Those Others, the ones we don’t like but who infest the Nationalist Party, the ones whose values we don’t share but who think they have the monopoly on values – yes, the ones who drove thousands of people away from the Nationalist Party since 2004.

The ‘Nationalist diehards’ are the ones OPPOSING Salvu Mallia and demanding that the party get rid of him. It is the switchers – of whom he is one, remember – who are listening to him. Yes, the switchers, the ones who aren’t listening to Simon Busuttil (though others are).

And yours must be the 20th comment I have received since yesterday which talks about somebody not being able to ‘string’ something. If I were correcting papers, rather than uploading comments, I would by now have ripped them all up and flung them into the air in irritation.

Sentences are not strung. They are STRUNG TOGETHER. And policies are not strung at all, together or otherwise.
