Salvu, I note you use the epithet “imgiddem” which you also used frequently on your TV programme. Don’t you think it might be offensive to the unfortunate millions afflicted with that dreadful disease?

I wasn’t talking about their questionable demands for handicapped access. I was talking about the breathtakingly cynical manipulation of civil society that took place prior to 2013.

Joseph Muscat’s brand label needed to be seen as the protector of minorities, in order to reinforce the liberal and progressive brand.

Now the handicapped are a minority. So Muscat went after them like he did with any market segment. And he convinced them, and the rest of the country, that the fight for equality and a better life for the handicapped was the sole preserve of Labour.

The Nationalist Party never ever raised a finger to counter the lie.

It’s about brand association. If I were to ask ten people at random to name something positive about this Labour government, whether they think it’s corrupt or not, more likely than not they’ll say “heqq, ic-civil liberties hux”.

David Thake himself did it, on the phone with Franco Debono. It’s that bad.

But ask them to define civil liberties and they couldn’t (nobody can; it’s one of those postmodern tags). Or to name just one piece of legislation besides gay marriage (which in any case isn’t a civil liberty but more like a civil right, if you wish to use labels).

This is what I meant. The national commission for the disabled fell for it hook, line and sinker.

What’s worse, the Labour party and later the government’s action wasn’t predicated on any virtue, or on any liberal value. It wasn’t progressive at all. It was still “imsieken”. The handicapped are still shoved out of sight, and it’s become even worse, because the slick marketing and bullshit spiel about ‘cosmopolitan’ Malta is now wall-to-wall, 24/7. And bear in mind that the number of handicapped will increase. It’s the law of nature. As the population grows older, so will the physical and mental challenges.

And even so, why should she have a disabled badge if she can walk and run? Shame on whoever issues these things.

I’d have to agree. My experience with dealing with the KPND has convinced me that common sense has never been their strong point.

When they keep insisting that a training room for dangerous work which a disabled person cannot do – for his/her own safety – must be accessible to allow the permit to go through, you have to question their judgement a bit.

I’ve been active in the field for over 20 years. I know what I’m talking about. And yes – for all your brilliant comments/posts – I take offence at your calling me ‘duped’. For example, I predicted that Dalli would be a shed-load of trouble for PN way back in the early 90s.
