It all boils down to this. Adrian Hillman and Mario Demarco, a key Nationalist Party politician, were lifelong best friends and Hillman owed his command-and-control status at Allied Newspapers/Progress Press to that friendship. But his other best friend - secret? not so secret? - was Keith Schembri, the man running the Labour Party's campaign and engineering its corrupt road map. And when it came down to the crunch, in the crucial years 2011-2013, the Times of Malta and less so The Sunday Times swung towards Labour, noticeably so.
The Labour Party regards Mario Demarco as his father's son and his eldest sister's brother, and affords him the same protection from criticism and scrutiny, let alone assault.

His personality is nothing like theirs, and I really don't think he hobnobs with Labour politicians in the same way, but he really should make it clear whose side he is on, instead of benefiting from Labour's reluctance to touch him. It's a real problem. When the situation is so ugly, and the stakes so high - Konrad Mizzi, Keith Schembri and Joseph Muscat will run wild if they win power for another five years - battle-lines have to be drawn. If you're friendly with people or you don't want to upset them so that they don't upset you in return, then you quite simply can't fight them.

Another thing I've meant to say for a while: will everybody please cut the 'such a gentleman' and 'gentlemanly' crap. Most of those using the terms don't even know what they mean. Coming as I do from a long line of real and actual gentlemen, and I am not going to make offensive comparisons, I can tell you one thing; GENTLEMEN FIGHT WHEN REQUIRED TO DO SO. AND GENTLEMEN NEVER, BUT NEVER, STRADDLE A FENCE.

Yes.
If the current political situation were normal, what you say might make sense. But we are not in a normal situation.

If Labour is re-elected it will be a disaster for Malta. It is not an exaggeration, so please get real.

The abuse, nepotism and corruption we are now seeing will multiply ten times over. Forget good governance, forget the environment. It will be open season for Labour cronies to bleed Malta's finances dry.

So there is no option for the next elections. Muscat must be removed and the only way to remove him is to vote in the Nationalist Party led by Simon Busuttil.

The only way for Muscat to be removed is for all Nationalist members of parliament, Demarco included, and all Nationalist candidates, to fight against the corruption that has overtaken the government.
