A subheading in the Times of Malta’s article reads:

Trip leases saved the airline millions – Air Malta

Anyone with an IQ above 1 would pause for a moment and think: an airline company keeps its crew on full pay at home while it leases additional aircraft with crew, and yet saves millions? WTF? There MUST be more.

There is.

Air Malta said the trip leases saved the airline millions of euros in denied boarding compensation payments which it would have to pay to passengers for delayed or cancelled flights.

Let’s get this straight. Airmalta takes flight bookings that it knows full well that it does not have enough aircraft to honour, and this will cost the company millions in compensation damages. So it leases aircraft and external crew, while keeping the company’s own crew at home on full pay, to save the company having to pay damages to customers whom it should have never committed itself to flying and exposing the company to said damages in the first place.

How’s that for a recommendation of both the current management and the current government which is running the show?

Just based on the few cases mentioned here I am amazed Malta is just 47th in the corruption index.

The chairperson and the board of directors together with the top management should resign. Useless lot, the whole lot of them. Why did Air Malta got rid of Peter Davis? Maybe I understand he wasn’t working his ass out or was being overpaid, but he was on the right track. Doing a good job.

It may mean workers being absorbed by government, as with Enemalta employees, or work being outsourced to a ‘friendly’ company.
