Mario, let him try to discredit you as much as he wishes. He is only capable of sitting comfortably – if that is possible due to his size – on his large chair at the Office of the Prime Minister, paid out of our taxes and hitting out ferociously at whoever criticises his boss and his corrupt friends.

Dear Mr Frendo, the nature of this very obstinate resistance that you are presently encountering confirms your rightfulness. Do you not see?

If it were not true, your piece of journalism would have been ignored and you would not have been blatantly attacked as you are being attacked now.

That IS true journalism and the repercussion you are now experiencing are the price you pay for it in a society that is not truly democratic.

Do not expect any support, but do not stop or give up. These very attacks are what should encourage you to go on because democracy is waning by the second, and freedom of speech and professional journalism must withstand this era of fear, this fear of speaking out, or retribution.

Anna Politkovskaya faced hell and death for truth. Was it all worth it? Of course it was. I wish you courage and strength. Never let them knock you down.

Mr. Frendo, I admire you as a person and as a journalist. The country needs more people like you and Daphne and the capabilities you (and hence we) are blessed with. It’s very easy for us readers to say keep up the good work, because it’s an uphill task for you.

You do not come across as naïve, so don’t expect anything better from that piece of lard at the Office of the Prime Minister. You are working against a well-oiled piece of machinery hell bent on the destruction of all that Malta has built and achieved in the last three decades, including freedom of expression and of association. Treat that machine accordingly.
