The obscene way in which the application for a precautionary warrant, demanded by Cardona and Gerada, was expeditiously granted is a slur on Malta’s administration of the law and any semblance of justice.

It is to be presumed that the application for such a huge precautionary warrant (aggravated by the promise of more), would be conditional to a sworn statement by the applicants declaring that they are truly owed that huge sum of money by the victim.

But in this case, every Tom, Dick and Harry in Malta knows that up to now Daphne Caruana Galizia does not owe anything to Cardona and Gerada. Anyone swearing to the contrary would be committing perjury.

It’s obviously not for a category of people classed as journalists, because you would have to start by defining them under the law.

It’s for all libel suits filed in terms of the Press Act. So the defining category is not ‘journalists’ but ‘libel suits’.
