Please stop using the word ‘commissions’. I know this is Malta, and that for years the island’s business community survived and thrived on commercial ‘commissions’ on deals, but the word is NOT used in corruption.

Fair point. However, wouldn’t you consider the fact that the Maltese authorities have failed to follow up what is quite a strong lead might suggest even worse crimes?

I mean, it’s one thing to try to hide illegal commissions overseas. It’s another thing altogether to muzzle the Police and other investigative authorities.

There is evidence that both Konrad Mizzi and Keith Schembri took such steps. Their explanations of their good intentions are not credible because of the timing when these steps were taken and the lack of the huge funds from their known legal sources to populate their setups.

The revelations of the Panama Papers may have stopped the continuation of these plans as originally planned, temporarily or permanently.

This would explain the lack of conclusive evidence that would be required in court, but it does not make Konrad Mizzi and Keith Schembri fit for the office they hold. The same applies to Prime Minister Joseph Muscat who supports them.
