It’s all about property. When was the last time we heard of any major technological/manufacturing investment in Malta? What happened to Huawei? There are more prospects for young budding individuals to work in real estate rather than engineering. Very sad indeed.

Very well said, Professor Briguglio. But the problem goes beyond just pavements and construction practices.

Here is another case of a valuable asset, land, being very badly used by the Labour government. Governments are there to further social and economic objectives and not to facilitate the speculative indulgences of greedy money grabbers.

The site is close to Paceville, an overdeveloped and congested tourist resort. The massive building and tower will cast a shadow (literally) on the only short stretch of sandy beach that there is for many miles around. The site, or at least part of it, should be used to address the needs of the area and also of tourism. There needs to be open spaces at the ITS site and also a multistorey underground car park to serve the needs of nearby Paceville. Then there are the Grade 2 listed old British barracks which will be bulldozed away.

Instead of serving the needs of the community, government chose to give the land away for speculation. Yet another disgraceful decision by the Labour government.
