It is a sad day indeed when a person with the power to influence legislation states that those who defend democracy are only inclined to do so for political mileage.

What would Owen Bonnici know about genuine people? Zilch. But about betrayal, on the other hand, he would be an expert.

What is sad is a government’s endorsement of its minister’s reaction, through legal process, to a personal allegation.

This could have been handled differently by the minister, and these statements reinforce the view that there seems to be no ability to distinguish this personal matter from an attack on a clearly embattled administration.

Frankly, in the midst of its EU presidency the Prime Minister should employ the better judgment to distance his government from this and to have kept his cabinet in line.

Now that it is within the EU domain, it almost begs the Commission to admonish the government like an adult would a group of ill-behaved children.

What is a “genuine person”, anyway? It’s a little bit tricky making people in a factory, though billions are made in China. A Justice Minister who speaks Maltese Bunglish – as though he weren’t bad enough already.
