How about the Attorney General taking a leaf out of Spain’s judicial system? A landmark corruption trial in Spain this week found the brother-in-law of King Felipe VI, Inaki Urdangarin, guilty of fraud and influence peddling and he was given a jail term of six years and three months.

The trial became a lightning rod for public anger at abuses of the nation’s elite. Urdangarin’s conviction marks the denouement of a scandal that revealed to Spaniards how institutionalised corruption had become during the long economic boom that had turned to bust by 2008.

The court probe focused on the activities of a foundation (the Noos Institute) headed by Urdangarin which received public funds and Aizoon, a shell company he owned that received money from it.

In reply to Joseph Borg. Why would we feel sorry for someone who might not have gotten his share of ill-gotten goods like his friends did? It's money made off the backs of their own country men. That's how rotten and amoral they are. They are betraying their own country and bleeding it dry. What we SHOULD feel is enough anger and betrayal to force us out onto the streets, bring the country to a standstill, make demands for their resignations, and call for an early election.
