Prior to the EU “aligned” arrangements Malta had offshore companies permitting 5% tax. Nowadays 35% “tax” is paid but 30.x% equivalent is received back in dividends within 14 days, besides other specific beneficial arrangements. So companies registered here get a better deal than pre-EU when Malta was an offshore jurisdiction.
