I understand that they are thinking of putting a judge instead of a magistrate to hear libel cases. I have a feeling that a newly-appointed judge was in the mind of those who are thinking of this.

Well, it’s a recorded element in history, isn’t it. To gain power, or when you’re in power and in trouble, focus the hatred of the community on witches, women, the social classes portrayed as unfairly privileged and arrogant because of it, Jews, outsiders, whatever. I think so many of the historic ‘hate and fear’ boxes: I’m a woman, I come from the social class historically thought of as the enemy of the ‘real people’, I’m rigid in the face of their assaults, and I look 100% Jewish, which triggers ancient, primeval hatred that they’re not even aware of. Why do you think they focus so obsessively on my face? It’s a Jewish face, and without even being aware of it, they’re channelling historic Nazi propaganda.
