The issue I have with John McCain (who I do have a lot of respect for as one of the few sane Republicans) is that he talks a lot but doesn’t actually do very much.

It’s impossible to take your comments on these matters seriously, knowing how much you admire Donald Trump. It shows that your criticism of the Maltese government’s choices, behaviour and actions is entirely partisan, and has nothing to do with an understanding of the principles and threats to democracy involved – or even with a clear understanding of the difference between wrong and right.

The difference is that Trump has a finger on the world’s security but the American Senate and House of Representatives still have a mind of their own and could impeach the President if he goes against the American constitution.

In Malta, we have yes men in the Labour government, and whatever the PM does or says is approved.

Our last protection would be the Constitutional Court, unless Muscat managers to do away with that too as his predecessor Mintoff had done.

Ultimately it will be the electorate who decides, but this will only happen when the country becomes a total disaster.

When journalists start to be persecuted it is really, really bad for a country’s democracy. Journalists, especially those who don’t have any affiliation with political parties, are the voice of the citizens and should be protected.
