Agreed, however that should come from within the party’s leadership i.e. Simon Busuttil. If Busuttil does not get rid of Demarco or at the very least order him to cut ties from the corrupt people he works for, then the problem runs much deeper within the party than we originally thought.

That being said, the party needs to have everyone on the same page and not people going renegade. This country doesn’t need people who hold Parliament hostage as what happened during Gonzi’s last term in office.

When one person has so much power within a party, the party and the government suffers. If Salvu Mallia wanted the Nationalist Party to get rid of Demarco he should have kept his mouth shut and talked to Simon Busuttil and if the party chooses not to get rid of him then he should leave.

Mallia should understand that he needs to think with his head and not with his social media account.

It’s because, New World Order, we want the Nationalist Party to clean up its act and get rid of the detritus that comes in the shape of ‘il-politika tal-kompromessi’ u ‘hbieb ta’ kullhadd biex ma jghidu xejn kontrija’ and sickeningly inappropriate business/professional ties.

There are some of us out here taking all the flak by doing what the Opposition should be doing – albeit in our role as journalists – and uncovering piles of dirt and reporting on it, only to discover that Mario Demarco is sitting in an office with Konrad Mizzi negotiating for Silvio Debono, or that Nationalist MP X has no interest in hearing about a building contractor using North Korean slave labour and taking up the matter in parliament because that contractor was building an extension for a hotel owner he works for.

Is it any surprise that people are leaking about government corruption to this website instead of to the Nationalist Party? Imagine taking a story involving Silvio Debono to the Nationalist Party or its media, only to then discover that he’s giving them money and that your identity might be at risk (even if it isn’t) and that the story might not be reported at all.

These are the issues that the Nationalist Party must seriously, but seriously, consider and deal with.

So what – he is a liability to the party and has too much power already. If Salvu Mallia wants to “save Malta from the Labour Party” by aligning himself with the lesser evil (in his own words), he has to play by the rules.

Malta does not need a renegade a la Pullicino Orlando and Franco Debono. At least Marlene Farrugia had the decency to resign from the Labour Party after she spoke out against the leadership.

Also, if he is so hell-bent on thwarting the Labour Party, why does he try to portray the Nationalist Party as a party which has a corrupt deputy leader? Isn’t he helping in pushing voters away from the Nationalists?

People expect Mario Demarco to be a man and resign. Some ‘mistakes’ are unacceptable. Bring the new faces up front.

Show us that there are people who have strong moral foundations, who are ready to serve the nation and who are capable of leading the country out of this maze. Show us the new Nationalist Party – a coalition against corruption.
