In reply to callixtus. Another tragedy was Sanders being pushed aside. Unfortunately, Trump was still a better choice than Clinton. At least Trump is open about how nuts he is. Clinton, on the other hand, is a conniving multi-faced danger, and a closer comparison of what we are experiencing in Malta at present.

This from a president who was mercilessly and many times unjustly mocked and criticised by the press.

It is a tragedy that the Republican Party which gave the US so many great presidents in the past, ended up supporting Donald Trump who considers the independent media as enemies of the American media and peddlers of fake news, just like our Labour government.

The very appropriately acronymed MaD Bill is not just about having in place a legal structure that will enable Muscat and his government to shut down huge sectors of the media at will, it is also the opening shot in what is bound to be an escalating campaign by the government to silence all forms of dissent in the lead up and up to the general election.

There is more and worse to come. Joseph Muscat, Konrad Mizzi and Keith Schembri have hanging on their heads the prospect of an 18-year jail term and/or Euro 2.5 million fine once they are voted out of government. It is not an election that they can afford to lose.

The Media and Defamation Bill must be resisted at all its stages and, if put into force, must not be allowed to take effect.
