The truth is a combination of what J Sammut said and of what you said.

Many people are aware of the rampant corruption, but only care about what they are gaining - jobs, corrupt deals, dodgy arrangements, etc.

What compounds this is that some people actually think the country is doing well, and because of this they can close an eye to the massive corruption.

In most countries a corrupt contact is tainted with illegality and is unenforceable through the courts. Am hopeful, if not sure, that it will be so in Malta.

The Nationalist Party's electoral programme should undertake to scrap this deal. When elected, Simon Busuttil's government should tear up the contract.

Upon the institututuon of the consequent legal proceedings by Gasan, Tumas and whoever else, there will be a corresponding popular reaction against these parasites and a boycotting of their businesses.

These so-called businessmen will rue the day they conspired with a handful of corrupt politicians to rip the nation off.

The suggestion that there may be corruption within the European Commission is a very interesting one, not only because publication of this story coincides with the European People's Party congress in Malta this week.

Whilst on the subject of state aid, does anyone know what is happening with Crane Currency's plans to establish a plant in Malta about which we heard so much towards the end of 2016? Three hundred jobs were due to be created. And Muscat, very sheepishly, eventually admitted that the Maltese tax payer would effectively be guaranteeing Crane's borrowings for the project. In the light of the article above concerning Electrogas, the EU needs to look at the Crane case very closely.

May I draw to the attention of members of the EPP, some of whom will doubtless be reading Running Commentary since it is the best source of news about what is really going on in Malta, that Keith Schembri, Muscat's chief of staff, is the owner of the company which is the agent for the manufacturer of the printing presses that will be bought by Crane Currency for its Maltese operation.

Yes, the same Keith Schembri who was found to have opened a company in Panama within days of the Labour Party getting into government in 2013,and who rudely and aggressively refused to be interviewed by the Pana Committee when they visited Malta last month.
