To the detriment of Maltese people who have got to live here permanently. In London and other big cities you can move out to the suburbs and pay less. In Malta you can move out into the sea.

The system lends itself to criminality. It is the nature of the beast. It works the same in every country no matter which political party is elected. In Malta it is much more readily visible because it lacks the layers of government and anonymity that larger countries possess.

When the cause is so enmeshed, forward planning so as to remove it will need to act with what’s in place: a long term view and progressive radical steps.

The rental market hasn’t gone through the roof on all comparative bases. It’s gone through the roof because the economy it’s based on is unsustainable.

If the value was there, the rental prices would be quite at par internationally.

Value not price should be the determinant.

But it would need to permeate through to all sectors.

Nor were things better before, when you could just email the PM. I wrote to Gonzi telling him what a bad idea it was to give a huge handshake to Drydocks workers as thanks for their 25 years of bleeding Malta dry.
