In reply to AD. How can she not worry? She's bearing the brunt of their anger at being exposed and thwarted. The system is obviously broken. If we value freedom of expression, the law has to be changed as of yesterday. Libel suits need to be vetted before they are filed. The law suits filed against Mrs Caruana Galizia in both this scandal and in the FKK Acapulco case are clearly vexatious and intimidatory. The letter of the law is being used to suppress our most inalienable rights.

Isn’t this partly the very danger of conflict of interest cases? People think everything’s a breeze even though it isn’t, and when things turn sour, they then turn very ugly.

Whether he would have wished it on you or not was compromised by the existence of that self-granted conflict of interest. There was no consideration of others and all of their efforts and sacrifices.

Ultimately, it is a lack of respect at the outset.

It shouldn’t be a question of where respect is targeted.

One has a right to expect an unbiased and ethical approach all throughout.

The only reason why some journalists never discuss “corrupt businessman” who ruled over the Maltese government for ages is because the same journalists or their employers are also in the corrupt businessman’s pocket. Don’t forget that mainstream TV programmes and newspapers make their money from advertising.

The island is knee-deep in corruption. Debono is given thousands of square metres of prime land for peanuts while costing the country millions of euros to transfer the college to another part of the island.

He then intimidates journalists who hold him, and the politicians who made it possible for him, to scrutiny.
