Forget it, H. P. What you see here with KA is a process of distancing. He’s decided that Malta is beneath him and not worth his time, and hence he can’t be arsed to vote.

The clue is in his use of expressions like ‘look at yourselves’ – in other words, he’s no longer one of us. He is now special, taf int, ghax siefer.

I’d better hold my tongue.

My reading of the situation, as a woman of a certain age and some experience, is that the man couldn’t be arsed to spend the time and money coming to Malta to vote, and has convinced himself that it is the superior thing to do because elections are so yesterday.

I know. That’s exactly what I tell people who use the embassy argument: that they have never been anywhere if they think voting at an embassy is easier than voting in your own country.

You’re not that intelligent if you can’t see beyond your narrow concerns and why you should vote in this election. I doubt that you are more intelligent than my sons, for example, who have lived away from Malta for years but are determined to vote, and at least one of whom is actively campaigning to get others to vote too.

You’re actually typically Maltese in your reasoning: “I’m too smart to vote or bother about politics. I’m so smart that I only think about myself.”

In reply to Peter Parker. Cheap for everyone when you consider what is at stake. I'm quite sure you have 1,400 euros in the bank. You just don't want to spend them on doing your duty because you would much rather spend them on buying something that you consider worth the spend.
