In reply to Antoine Vella. At least they got the business. I did not, although some 30,000 euros cheaper and with much better machinery. Instead they chose to buy from a firm that had already sold to the Maltese government equipment worth almost 1 million euros that never worked.

Let’s assume this commission went to the actual organisation to cover certain costs – has it been registered and if so was it published.

And even if this is actually what happened it is highly irregular. I’m sure the CHOGM delegates would be livid to know the organising committe was taking a commission on their hotel bookings, apart from the very serious possibility that some or all of this commission actually ended up in somone’s pocket.

Whoever agreed to the sending of that email should be kicked out of the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association. He is not fit to look after the interests of its members if he caves in to a request for a commission and thus expose the Association members to a form of moral blackmail. Malta does not need such spineless leaders in its society.
