I know of very few ”disgruntled Nationalists” who will be casting theit vote for Muscat ‘ this time round , and plenty of others who will be voting Nationalist for the first time in their lives, because they have have had enough of the corruption revelations that they see are endangering their and their children’s livelihood.

And the last time I saw the sort of optimism I am seeing now in ordinary Nationalist voters was in the general election that followed the EU referendum.

In Gozo they are randomly dishing out jobs. The other day I witnessed three women sweeping the same stairs leading up to the Cittadella.

Three hree security guards were posted to Dwejra to guard the blue window which fell the next day. They are still there even though the rock has collapsed. Now two security guards have been posted at Calypso Cave.

It’s all to do with their self-image and self-respect. They overcame so many psychological hurdles to vote for Muscat in 2013 that lots of them now have problems, even four years down the line and after all this corruption and maladministration, admitting even to themselves that their judgement was poor.

Lots of others don’t have any such difficulty, though.
