One cannot but feel a sigh of relief that Malta’s justice system is finally proving to be functional. We all like to feel that ultimately, one’s rights at law are safeguarded, regardless of which party is in power.

The Commissioner of Police should resign after this twist in the magistrate’s decision to proceed with a criminal investigation. He has failed us miserably and this might be his last chance to save his skin.

As for Joseph Muscat, I am sure that deep down, he’s not totally unhappy with this outcome, being the sneak that he is. The investigation of Brian Tonna and Keith Schembri will give him and Michelle Muscat a break, and he hopes, a chance to get away scot free with Egrant.

There’s a mistake in the wording, because it refers to the 28th of May, rather than the 28th of April, though I’m not sure if that would affect anything.

Brian Tonna of Nexia BT is not just an accountant. He is an auditor and heads an auditing firm.

Auditors (unlike accountants) are supposed to be impartial towards their clients and report things exactly as they are when they make the yearly report which is compulsory by law and which is given to the client’s banks and to the Malta Financial Services Authority.

If an auditor covers up for a client, the issue is much more serious than had he been only an accountant.
