Exactly. It looks as if it is a done deal. And after the unannounced privatisation of St Lukes, Karin Grech and Gozo hospitals during this term of government, it seems as if it is Mater Dei Hospital and Mount Carmel Hospital next after the general election.

Well, you’re wrong. It’s the possessive form: a master’s degree.

“A masters” is what, exactly? Think about it – you don’t use the indefinite article with the plural form. It’s like saying “a cats” or “a dogs”.

As for the link you posted here: “Should I do a master’s?” I shuddered. “Do a master’s”. Mamma mia.

Master’s is the correct form, because it’s the possessive and not the plural. The misconception that it’s ‘masters’ and not ‘master’s’ arises from the fact that Maltese people call it “a Masters” rather than a “Master’s degree”.

That, actually, is the mistake on the Labour billboards: leaving out the word ‘degree’.
