Why would the Kremlin bother about Malta. It interfered in the US and French elections and in the Brexit referendum because the US, the EU, France and the UK are global powers opposed to Putin’s dictatorship and threats to Russian imperialism.

Malta is completely irrelevant in the scheme of things. Russia does not interfere in other countries’ affairs just for kicks or to extract revenge on completely irrelevant politicians.

In the US it successfully helped elect a President who has surrounded himself by Russophiles and put himself in a mess by leaking sensitive information to Russia.

In France, he tried to undermine the only one (Macron) of the four leading contenders for the presidency who was hostile to Putin’s imperialism. And in the Brexit referendum, he managed to kill two birds with one stone, harming the EU which managed to bring the Soviet empire crashing down and then welcomed most of its former satellites as members and damaging the UK one of its harshest critics by isolating it and undermining its future prosperity and possibly triggering its breakup.

Helping remove Muscat would be self-defeating as it will only lead to the election of a pro EU and pro Nato government.
Malta was going to refuel the Russian warships in secret.

It only didn’t do so at the eleventh hour when the Maltese government’s plans were rumbled. So Muscat’s claim to being anti-Russian and pro Western is completely false.

The timeline of events proves that Muscat`s theory is a complete fabrication. And Russia would never have left its spy stranded in a island with non-existent borders for more than a year.

The Kremlin would have used WikiLeaks or RT to leak its documents, not an internationally respected Maltese journalist who would have smelled a rat immediately had they tried to manipulate her.

So while this story bears no resemblance to the Kremlin`s interference in other countries, it has all the hallmarks of Muscat’s bullshit.
