In circumstances such as these, resignation from public office is not an act of courtesy or convention (because that is what is done in democratic countries). It is an absolute duty.

It is the principal function of a Prime Minister to protect and promote the interests of the country and the people he represents. If staying in office is causing serious harm to the interests of Malta and its people, then the Prime Minister should resign.

It is clear that the Prime Minister, simply by virtue of the fact that he is hanging on to his office, has caused and is causing serious and irreparable harm to Malta and its people. It is, therefore, clear that the Prime Minister should have resigned some time ago.

The question 'where is the evidence?' is not in the least relevant for the purposes of this argument. By staying in office, Joseph Muscat chose his own personal interests before the interests of the country and people he represents. There is no excuse whatsoever that could justify this breach of duty.
