In reply to Daphne Caruana Galizia. Absolutely. It's the 21st century version of the colonial mentality. The forefathers of these people were afraid of independence because we would have to fend for ourselves. The same mentality was prevalent prior to EU accession: "surely we won't be able to compete with the Europeans?". The Labour Party has always encouraged that mentality of dependence and it is one of the main reasons I can never support it.

Oh yes, that is precisely it. “Ma hasbux fina n-Nazzjonalisti” is the exact words they use.

And they do expect to be given what is not theirs by right. The Gonzi administration, quite rightly so, did not give permits and jobs left right and centre. The Muscat administration does, and those kind of Nazzjonalisti have voted Muscat this time round.

In reply to Daphne Caruana Galizia. It's true. Labour doesn't believe in independence at all. It wanted Malta to have seats in the House of Commons in the UK rather than go it alone on its own steam. It was the Nationalists who did that, and as we can see they are more inclined to foster that spirit.
