It is the same curse that ‘natural resources’ countries like Saudi Arabia, Gabon, Kuwait, Equatorial Guinea are facing. These countries have always provided handouts to their people, as the crude oil revenue was easily flowing in.

Now that the oil prices have plummeted, with no increases in oil prices possible in the future, they have a problem: what to do with the uneducated population.

The state of affairs is not sustainable. It’s called ‘The Oil Curse’. Malta is heading that way and we will face reality in a decade or so. At that point, Keith Schembri and Joseph Muscat will be enjoying a cosy lifestyle financed by the millions in their offshore accounts.
