Your fiancé must have misunderstood. Since the change to the law in 1993, mothers and fathers have EQUAL rights over their children.
In reply to <a href="https://daphnecaruanagalizia.com/2017/07/95547/#comment-3142605">Daphne Caruana Galizia</a>.

No that's not the kind I'm talking about at all, although I'm sure what you mention happens as well.

I'm talking about men who want a wife and a family, who pair up with a woman who doesn't, or maybe doesn't with him. But he's a good man, works hard and respects her so she goes for it. And what's a young woman in the 70s to do if not get married by 22.

And he becomes a means to an end. Works 2 or 3 jobs to keep things going, and because she has no real love for him, she spends her days going for coffee mornings and spending money on crap, and never thinks of the family unit as a team pulling together.

You'll generally find these kind of women to be wannabe social climbers, and they're not as rare a species as you make them out to be.

These certainly exist as well and I could pull a few names of the top of my head, and many more if I stopped to think a bit. As a woman, you wouldn't hear about them, as the details are normally shared over a beer or whisky too many.

It's one of the reasons I oppose people who want to "save" marriages no matter what. Sometimes a marriage shouldn't be saved.

I think you'll find that when wives turn nasty, it's when they've been on the receiving end of years of their husband's nastiness. When the wife is vulnerable in the early years of marriage - vulnerable because generally there are young children and she is financially dependent - the husband bullies her, tortures her financially and emotionallt and treats her like shit. Then the children grow up, she regains some of her autonomy, and rounds on him.
