Those are all subjects on which I am competent to speak. I have had a lot of life experience and beyond that, my work as a journalist has exposed me to all sorts. It may be difficult for you to accept, but if you think about it, I’m the only married Maltese woman with adult children, of my generation, who has worked in political and social affairs journalism for three decades and who comes from a well-connected family background that has given her exposure to things other journalists probably don’t know and to a lifelong network they don’t have. I have also made many mistakes and learned from them, and am not averse to passing on the lessons learned. So sorry to burst your bubble.

P.S. Watch it, because you’re beginning to sound like a Laburist/a.

Because I’m doing it in my name, and because I only ever give advice on subjects where I actually know what I am talking about, and where I am competent to speak.

I would never advise a surgeon on how to do his work, or give helpful tips to a woman with triplets, or tell a horse-owner how to groom a horse. But that is exactly what people like you do.

Not arrogance, but a statement of fact. Anybody – let alone a professional person – would be insane to take advice from an agenda-driven anonymous commenter on Disqus. When professional people want professional advice, they take it from other professionals – and that in every discipline.

I take professional advice all the time: from professionals, face to face.
