If he has the potential to see off Muscat, then the first thing that comes to mind is that “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”.

At least he was not caught with a company in Panama, so he’d be preferable to me…

In reply to Albert Bezzina. COMPANIES, please, not accounts. I can't believe people are still talking about Panama accounts 18 months down the line. They're Panama companies, not Panama accounts. The individuals in question may well also have Panama accounts, but that is a separate matter.

Of course I have no evidence, just a thought. Considering that the presence of the three Panama accounts only came to light because of the leak, and everybody assumed that these were set up to pocket the takings from the passport / citizenship scheme and the gas and power station deals, with such shady credentials as VGH, how could I not think that there is a group of top politicians who have established a long term money flow siphoned off from this arrangment. This could only come to light if another leak in another country’s secret accounts set up.

You seem to be lucky enough not to need the services of the Obstetrics and Gynae department where Chris Fearne has failed to inform the public how, in spite of the retirement of Dr Buttigieg, Dr Savona Ventura, Dr Mamo and soon Professor Brincat, all consultants in that department, not even a single replacement has been recruited.

Yet frequent articles with photos of Chris Fearne are splashed all over the news stating what this or that department did.

Chris Fearne is a master at hiding the rust under a gleaming hood.

The next time he boasts about this or that cancer medicine added to the Mater Dei list, why don’t you ask him what the waiting list for the anomaly scan for pregnant mothers is?

Who knows, perhaps he would then find it in his interest to find out why certain consultants see only their private add on patients in the public outpatients but delegate all the patients on the official list to their subordinates, while the consultants themselves then proceed to leave Mater Dei Hospital at 11am to go to their private practice?

Ah but given his career history and rapid rise within the government, I can’t help but think he didn’t need to ask, but already knew most, if not all of the ins and outs, as to why his government signed the ‘privatisation’ deal with Vitals Global Healthcare (VGH).

Are we to seriously believe he was not party to, or never involved at all, in the myriad of government discussions/presentations with VGH/Projects Malta/Malta Enterprise, regarding the future of the healthcare services within Malta?

Giving him the benefit of the doubt, what he probably was unaware of at the time was how shady the deal with VGH actually was – until the Panama Papers leak that is, and the resultant exposure of the corrupt shenanigans of Dr. Konrad Mizzi and Keith Schembri et al.

However, the knowledge of his colleagues corruption did not deter an ambitious Chris Fearne from accepting the role of Minister of Health offered by Joseph Muscat, in April 2016; nor did it stop him from successfully tossing his hat in the ring last month to become the Deputy Prime Minister.

The adjective ‘unscrupulous’ springs to mind.
